During the peak of the mid-1960s blues boom in England, a scruffy young group came roaring out of Ireland with a raw, scrappy blues-rock sound. Led by Van Morrison, Them could spit out blues tunes like Bright Lights, Big City with just as much grit as the Stones, but they also turned out their own garage-rock gems, like Mystic Eyes and future bar-band staple Gloria, whose visceral-but-dreamy tinge foreshadowed Morrison's later solo career.
