With the release of their first album came non stop touring with The Allman Bros Band, The Marshall tucker Band, The Charlie Daniels Band, Wet Willie and Lynyrd Skynrd. For the next 3 years the band stayed on the road and released the critically acclaimed Macon Tracks and Pullin Together. Then in 1976 after returning from a major European tour with MTB and Bonnie Bramlett ,Grinderswitch entered the studio to record what would become their biggest Album Redwing but there was problems with the label and the album was shelved. The band sat without work or any future prospects of breaking the stalemate for 6 months. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eTimes were tough but they stuck together and in 1977 Redwing was released on the newly formed Rabbit\/Atco label. The band was impressed by the amount of promotion the new album was receiving and went into the studio and recorded 10 tracks for an album with the working title Chasing Wild Desires Then came DISCO. However, Rick Medlock, who was with Skynyrd for a time, has a slightly more metallic style. Blackfoot were the first mostly Native American rock group. (Charlie Hargrett was the lone white guy' as Rick put it!) The band was made up of: singer\/guitarist Rickey Medlocke, the grandson of bluegrass musician Shorty Medlocke, who wrote Train, Train; drummer\/singer Jakson Spires, bassist\/singer Greg T. Walker, and lead guitarist Charlie Hargrett. The group also added ex-Uriah Heep keyboardist Ken Hensley in the mid-80's. They played a form of hard Southern rock that was popular with fans of the NWOBHM, for some reason. Their success in America was never that of Europe, who latched onto their heavy southern sound. In the mid-to-late 80's however, they popularity dwindled and the band broke up. Rick is now back touring and writing with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Jakson Spires formed the \u003ci\u003eSouthern Rock Allstars\u003c\/i\u003e in 2000 with ex-Molly Hatchet guitarist Dave Hlubeck. Though the band enjoyed minor success in portions of the country, their relentless touring and promotion of the album was met with general indifference and the band members parted ways the following year. The vocal harmonies are stellar and the performances are fluid and powerful. It's quite a shock that this band has been relegated to obscurity, as the songwriting is top notch and the production is quite exceptional given the year the album was recorded. Well, obviously, these guys never had much of a chance and this is where it ended to the public eye.\u003cbr\u003eHowever, this Two Guns album is a bit of a Southern Rock classic. I find it rather hard to compare to any other band, since they definitely had a sound of their own. At times I hear similarities to The Charlie Daniels Band and Skynyrd. It's kind of heavy, but it's not dumb. Lots of interesting arrangements and fine playing.
